Officials award contract for Sussex medical marijuana center

(AP) – A company that was awarded a contract two years ago to open Delaware’s first medical marijuana dispensary near Wilmington has won the bidding to open a similar facility in Sussex County.
Department of Health and Social Services officials confirmed Monday that First State Compassion Center, which opened the New Castle County facility last year, has been awarded the Sussex County contract.
Here is a statement sent to 47 ABC from Sussex DPH:
“The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is pleased to announce the completion of contract negotiations for the Sussex County Compassion Center. First State Compassion Center (FSCC) was rated highest by the Medical Marijuana RFP Selection Committee and will be preparing a Sussex County retail facility which will being offering product in early 2017.”
Last month, officials said New York-based Columbia Care, which operates medical marijuana facilities in five states and the District of Columbia, was awarded a contract to grow and dispense medical marijuana in Kent County.
