Long Neck fire still under investigation

Monday afternoon,  neighbors and spectators surveyed the remains of a house fire in Long Neck.

“I heard some noises  and the house was already engulfed in flames. Everything is so close here, we had gotten hoses out to try to things down some,” says Robin Shank, a neighbor.

Shank says she was sleeping,  but the sounds from the blaze woke her up. According to the state fire marshal’s office,  the fire was reported shortly before 5 AM Sunday morning,  and while firefighters got it under control,  they discovered one person dead inside the trailer. Elizabeth Callahan tells 47 ABC, that was her mother-in-law, Joyce Clough.

“She’s always been a mother to me. She’s been there there through so much for me. I’m really going to miss her,” says Callahan.

Neighbors who knew Joyce say she usually kept to herself, but for Callahan that was family.

“She was amazing. She could light up a room. Give you the coat off her back. She would do anything for anybody,” says Callahan.

47 ABC asked if investigators know the identity of the victim, but it appears they’re still waiting for the medical examiner to get back to them with confirmation. In terms of the property, there was $50,000 in damages, and  it appears the fire also caused exposure damage to two mobile homes that were on the sides of the destroyed trailer.

Clough’s family has started a GoFundMe page to offset the costs of funeral services, for a link to the page click here.
