Laurel man charged for stabbing his roommates

Delaware State Police are investigating the stabbing of two people in Laurel that occurred late Sunday night.
According to troopers, they were called to a home on the 7000 block of Airport Road around 9:50 PM to a report of a stabbing. Once they arrived troopers say they found a 24-year-old male and a 20-year-old female who were stabbed by their roommate, who was identified as 29-year-old Dwight Shivers.
Investigators say, Shivers was asked to leave the residence by the homeowner due to him being intoxicated and other issues that had occurred in the house. After consulting with the two victims, the female homeowner reportedly went outside to place a phone call and that’s when she heard noises coming from inside the house and looked inside to see Shivers standing over her 24-year-old brother stabbing him. Shortly before stabbing him, Shivers reportedly removed the kitchen knife from the drawer and stabbed the 20-year-old female while she was washing dishes in the kitchen. While the homeowner called 9-1-1, the two stabbing victims were reportedly able to flee the residence and run to a nearby neighbors house.
Shivers then allegedly entered the 20-year-old female victim’s vehicle and drove away. Within a half hour of him leaving, he reportedly pulled into the Maryland State Police Barrack in Salisbury where he was taken into custody without incident. While there, police say he was taken to PRMC where he was treated and released for a knife wound to his leg that occurred during the incident in Laurel.
The Maryland State Troopers have charged Shivers with driving under the influence of alcohol. He is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center pending extradition back to Delaware where he will be charged with attempted murder, assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and theft of a motor vehicle.
