James’ OT Game Winner Lifts Woodbridge Field Hockey Past Laurel

The Woodbridge field hockey team made the short trip down the road on Thursday afternoon and pulled out a 3-2 overtime win over Laurel. The win improves the Blue Raiders to 3-6-1, while the loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-6.

The Blue Raiders would control the possession in the first half. They would score two first half goals on their way to taking a comfortable lead into the break. But the Bulldogs came out firing in the second half. Cauri Smith would find Emanya Beckett for a quick score. Then with 15 minutes to play, Logan Handy would score on a breakaway up the left side to tie the match. The teams would head to overtime, where Handy would get a yellow for a foul early on. The Blue Raiders would draw a corner, and with a man up, they would go to work. Brooke Joseph would send a pass to Mikah James who would fire it in for the overtime game winner.

Woodbridge returns to action on Tuesday when they host Dover, while Laurel host Sussex Tech on Tuesday.
