FOP votes “No Confidence” in Smyrna’s police Chief Wood

On June twenty second the members of Smyrna Police Fraternal Order also known as,  Lodge 22, voted “No Confidence” in Smyrna Police Chief Norman Wood. This was due to what the FOP calls his inability* to lead the agency.

A letter was sent out to Mayor Joanne Masten and members of the town council.
Since then 47 ABC has made multiple trips to Smyrna town council meetings – where there was supposed to be an open discussion about what was being done, only to find that the council refused to speak on the matter publicly.

According to the FOP, their lack in confidence in Chief Wood stems from a number of things, including; his inability to establish strategic organizational missions, failure to lead by example, inability to inspire and motivate others and poor communication. The FOP admits that these are difficult characteristics to quantify however,  they feel these things are critically important for leaders to exhibit.

“So, what’s going to happen is the attorney general office will investigate the matter and the it will be up to their time table as to when they come back to us with a response,” explained Barrett Edwards, Smyrna’s, town solicitor. “As soon as the town council receives a response from the attorney generals office then at that point the town council will review whatever response is received and decide whether or not additional action is needed.”

47 ABC will be following the story and you can continue to check our webpage for updates.
