Fatal motorcycle crash investigated in Smyrna

Troopers in Delaware are looking for the driver of a car of interest following a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred Wednesday on Smyrna-Leipsic Road.

According to DSP, around 6:00 p.m., 54-year-old man was operating a motorcycle eastbound toward Big Oak Road, when for undetermined reasons, the motorcycle exited the roadway and struck a ditch, then a fence.

Police say the man was ejected from the motorcycle upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this point, police cannot determine whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The area of Smyrna-Leipsic road was closed for about three and a half hours following the incident.

Investigators say they are looking for more information on a white mid-sized passenger car that may have been in the area prior to the crash.

The victim’s name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
