Eccard’s Game-Winner Lifts Washington Past Parkside

The Washington field hockey team earned a conference road win Monday afternoon after they defeated Parkside 1-0 off a Hannah Eccard game winner with under 2 minutes to go in the match. The win improves the Jaguars to 5-4, while the loss drops the Rams to 3-5-1.
The teams would be in a defensive battle throughout most the match. Both goal keepers CeAirra Davis and Hannah Mascara would come up with one great save after another to keep it tied. After a scoreless first half, the Jaguars would start to play with more of a sense of urgency up front, and created a couple scoring opportunities. Finally, with under 2 minutes to go the Jaguars would draw a corner where Hannah Eccard would take a pass at the top of the circle, and rifle it home for the score. The Rams would try and answer and draw a corner as time had expired, but as the pass came out, Washington’s Olivia Courtney would be able to get a stick on it to get the clear.
Washington returns to action on Wednesday when they host Bennett, while Parkside travels to Saints Peter and Paul on Friday.
