Eastern Correctional Institution is searching for 60 vacant job positions to fill

Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover has 60 job openings. Of those positions, they are looking to employ 40 correctional officers.
The spokesperson for Eastern Correction Institution, Gerald Shields, say that instead of recruiting locally, they are now hosting a career fair called Operation Hire. It’s apart of an effort that they started this year and they going around the state that have facilities and having these career fairs while offering people jobs.
There have been Operation Hire events all over the state of Maryland, but this event on the Eastern Shore is especially important because of the size of the prison in Westover. ECI is the biggest correctional facility in the state.
Many of the positions they are looking for include dietary managers, maintenance employees, and case workers, who are very important for the process to connect those with education, job training, and make those ready when they leave.
But with the 40 positions vacant, the biggest job hoping to be filled is the correctional officer position. A correctional officer job pays about $38,000 a year to start. One does not need any experience, but one does need a high school diploma or a GED. These jobs include great health care and retirement benefits.
If you are interested, the Operation Hire career expo will take place Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a WOR-WIC Community College.
