Early breast screenings could save your life

Breast cancer has affected many people in some way, shape, or form and with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, part of the awareness is knowing the basics of prevention.
Atlantic General oncologist, Rabindra Paul, tells 47 ABC 1 in 8 women risk having breast cancer in their lifetime.
Early detection is the most important part and it can save your life. According to Paul, a mammogram is the best way to detect the cancer and if its detected early the cure rate is significantly higher.
All women from the ages of 40 to 45 should have screening mammograms every 2 years.
Paul explains, “The importance of screening mammogram is very, very important to detect early because most often times we don’t feel any lump in the breast so screening mammogram is the way to detect breast cancer.”
Paul says there are other ways to prevent breast cancer. Staying active to reduce weight can help decrease chances and lowering your alcohol consumption and avoiding smoking can also lower your chances.
