DSP are currently investigating a fatal pedestrian crash south of Bridgeville

Delaware State Police is currently investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred last night south of Bridgeville.

Police say the incident happened around 8:06 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016. According to police, 64-year-old Kenneth E. Hedges of Seaford was driving southbound in a 2006 Toyota Avalon on Wesley Church Road. Police say a pedestrian, 72-year-old David L. Wynes of Georgetown was walking in traffic in the southbound lane of Wesley Church Road facing traffic.

DSP says Hedges attempted to swerve left but was unable to avoid the collision and struck the pedestrian. As a result, police state the pedestrian was carried on the vehicle before landing on the road where he came to a stop.

We are told Wynes sustained multiple massive traumas and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not carrying any type of light or reflective clothing.

Both Kenneth E. Hedges and his wife, Barbara E. Hedges were transported by EMS to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

DSP are continuing the investigation into this incident.
