Decatur Keeps Lead In South With Win At Mardela

The Stephen Decatur girls soccer team earned a important conference win Saturday morning when they traveled to Mardela and rolled to a 8-1 win. The win improves the Seahawks to 4-5, while the loss drops the Warriors to 1-9.
The Seahawks would go straight to work, earning a penalty kick just over 10 minutes into the match. Savannah Shultz would step into the box and fire it in to the right side for the score. Once Decatur found the back of the net the first time, the goals started really coming. Shortly after that, Lexie Van Kirk would get a lead pass on a break away and fire one in near post. Then off a great hustle play, Mallory Vara would be able to send in a loose ball in front of the goal. Van Kirk and Schultz would both add one more as Decatur would take a 5-0 lead into the break. Hattie Brous would keep the scoring going in the second half as she found the back of the net pretty early on. Finally, the Warriors would be able to answer after a foul in the box awarded them with a PK. Shelby Deckert would put a beautiful shot into the upper 90 for the score. But the Seahawks kept coming as Shultz would finish off her hat trick before Claire Porter would add another off a volleyed corner kick.
Stephen Decatur returns to action on Monday when they travel to Easton, while Mardela host Kent County on Monday.
