Crisfield fire kills 3; including 4-month-old baby

Early Saturday morning, nearly 50 Somerset County firefighters responded to Johnson Creek road in Crisfield to put out a house fire. 47 ABC spoke with neighbors and the surviving family members Sunday.

“He’s yelling fire fire! Sharon get up get up,” explained the homeowner, Sharon Raimondo.

Raimondo tells us it was her boyfriend Bob’s voice that woke her early Saturday morning, right before her entire house burned down. But they weren’t alone; Sharon’s daughter and her family were also inside, along with a baby boy they were babysitting.

“I’m screaming get Jennifer! Get Angelina,” Sharon sobbed. “Get the baby.”

Despite her screams, her daughter, Jennifer Cooper, and 16-year-old granddaughter Angelina, never made it out. The four month-old baby also perished in the fire. Sharon tells us they never heard the fire alarm go off only a loud bang that neighbors speculate may be a clue into what caused the fire.

“The fire department was here within 10 minutes at the most,” said the neighbors. “But it was just too involved for them to help and get the other people out.”

Sharon’s son-in-law, Coy tells us he thought his wife and step-daughter were right behind him. And while the family is in mourning, they were out Sunday trying to salvage anything that could be saved after this horrible loss. We also learned that the house was not insured and the family lost everything they own. The Red Cross says they are assisting the family, who for now, is staying in a mobile home across the street with a neighbor.
