Caesar Rodney Boys Soccer Rolls Past Sussex Tech

The Caesar Rodney boys soccer team earned another conference win Thursday afternoon when they defeated Sussex Tech 5-1. The win improves the Riders to 5-3, while the loss drops the Ravens to 3-4.
The Riders would grab an early lead after forcing a corner just over 9 minutes into the match. David Haynes would play the ball into the box, where Tommy McPoyle would volley it home far post for the score. Then just minutes later, the Riders would stretch their lead to 2-0, after McPoyle on a break away would send a cross to Ricky Hernandez who would be able to send it home near side. Caesar Rodney then had a chance to really open up the match after drawing a penalty kick. Hernandez would send a strike to the right side, but Anthony Hitchcock would make a tremendous diving save for the Ravens. That seemed to energize his team, as they quickly got a score back at the other end after Michael Barr would be able to finish one off. The Riders would take a 2-1 lead into the break, but quickly went to work in the second half. A call on a hold would go against the Ravens, and be called inside the box, awarding the Riders another PK. This time Hernandez wasn’t going to miss as he fired to the left side for the score. Not long after that, CR would add another one after McPoyle would score on a breakaway, followed by Chikezie Ikwuagwu with the final score of the match.
Caesar Rodney returns to work on Tuesday when they travel to Milford, while Sussex Tech travels to Indian River on Tuesday.
