Brooke Mulford makes a special visit to PRMC

A special visitor stopped by Peninsula Regional Medical Center Monday, Brooke Mulford. Mulford stole the hearts of many on Delmarva with her public battle with cancer, a fight she’s been on since 2009 when she was diagnosed at just 4-years-old.
Mulford used her struggle to help others who may be in similar situations by starting an organization called Brooke’s Toy Closet, which allows each child who visits the ER or pediatrics to select a toy to make their visit a little happier.
Mulford visted Monday for PRMC’s Bring a Toy To Work Day, a toy drive that went to benefit Brooke’s Toy Closet.
“It’s really great and exciting,” said Mulford of all the donations happening.
For her the toys she had during her treatment helped keep her spirits up.
“It makes me feel happy and helps relieve the stress and pain,” Mulford said, adding she hopes the toys will have the same affect on other kids.
Katherine Layton, chief of pediatrics at PRMC said that’s exactly what the toys do for young kids.
“The hospital is a scary place for any young child and so the toys help us build that relationship with the child, helps the child to relax more,” Layton said.
