Bennett Does Snow Hill A Solid By Topping Decatur

The rules were simple Thursday afternoon when Stephen Decatur’s girls soccer team traveled to take on Bennett. If the Seahawks could pull out a win, they would be crowned Bayside South Champs. However, if the Clippers won, than Snow Hill would be representing the South in the Title game.

As it so happened, the Clippers were in the mood to play spoiler. Bennett gutted out a thrilling 3-2 win, making the Eagles of Snow Hill the 2016 Bayside South Champs.

The teams would be in a battle early on before the Clippers would strike first. A deep long ball would be tracked down by Brooke Gardiner, who would fire it home to give her team the lead. Decatur would answer right back though after Lexie Van Kirk would send a pass to Bridgette Ardis, who would send it in. Than less than five minutes later, Mia Dill would get a through ball, and be able to fire it in to give Decatur the team. The Clippers were able to come right back though, after Annabel Hofmann fired a gorgeous shot from 30 yards out to the upper 90 to tie the match at 2-2 at the break. Heading into the second half, the Clippers would retake the lead after Olivia Owens found Michelle Lee, who would send a shot on frame that would hit off the near post and go in. Decatur would fight til the end, and have an opportunity late when Savannah Shultz would have a good look inside the box, but her shot would go off the post, no good. Time would run out with both Bennett and Snow Hill coming away as winners.

Bennett and Stephen Decatur both now await the release of this years state tournament bracket to find out who and where they will play next.
