According to a study, Virignia youth battling depression are among the least likely in the nation to receive treatment

According to a 2014 study done by a national non-profit group, young people battling depression in Virginia are among the least likely in the nation to receive treatment for their mental illness.
Mental Health America’s study shows one out of four Virginia youth suffering from major depression gets treated.
In an overall ranking, this research shows Virginia at the 42nd spot, in comparison to Maryland and Delaware who rank in the top 20.
These rankings explore which states are more effective at addressing issues related to mental health.
Among the bottom 10 states in the overall ranking, eight of those states had correlations with poor outcomes.
The study shows how Virginia has a connection with a low high school disability graduation rate.
Mental Health America says its goal is to use national survey data to measure a community’s mental health needs, access to care, as well as outcomes, regardless of the differences between the states and their varied mental health policies.
