A Salisbury man has been sentenced to 50 years

Travis Jones will serve half a century in prison after being convicted of child abuse resulting in death and voluntary manslaughter.
The charges stem from an incident back in July 2015, when Jones was watching over his ex-fiance’s 2 year old son.
During Jones’ trial, the state and defense agreed the child was fine before his mother left for work. But later that evening, the child was lifeless and covered with bruises from head to toe.
Wicomico County Assistant State’s Attorney Shauna Lee tells 47 ABC those bruises and the fact that the child was apparently dehydrated while in his crib led to his death.
While in court Friday Jones apologized to everyone, including the mother of the child for how he’s changed her life.
The mother also said emotional words in court saying, “My angel that God sent me has been taken too soon. I wonder about what he thought about, what he went through.”
Lee hopes this sentencing will give the child’s mother some peace and states, “I believe it has given her a sense of closure, I believe she is very, she is satisfied with the sentence, she believes that justice was served today. Hopefully she and her daughter will be able to move on.”
