2.8 million dollars in scholarship money earned by Mardela graduates

High graduation rates and scholarship money earned Mardela High students a visit from the state superintendent of schools Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Karen Salmon, state superintendent of Maryland schools, visited Mardela High and Middle in celebration of Maryland College Application Week.
At Mardela, seniors worked on college applications and college research all day Tuesday.
We’re told Mardela was chosen by the state in August after 94 students from the graduating class of 2016 collectively earned more than 2.8 million dollars in scholarships.
It’s a a huge feat, according to Dr. Salmon, for a small school.
“It’s a huge number,” says Dr. Salmon. “I think it just shows how aggressive the students have in pursuing this, and it shows that the adults really care about the student’s future and hopefully be involved in careers they want to be involved in.”
According to Dr. Salmon, college preparation really needs to start before high school. She recommends parents to talk to their middle school students about researching colleges.
