Study: Exercise can curb risks tied with alcohol

It’s goes with saying, a little exercise can go a long way; however, new research finds it could cancel out the higher risks of cancer death related to drinking.

According to a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers studied more than 36,000 adults for about 10 years: all of whom reported some sort of alcohol consumption.

They found was that those who were not physically active showed similar patterns of higher mortality. Those who did meet the recommended 2.5 hours of exercise a week had slightly lower death rates. That is as long as they drank within recommended guidelines of one to two drinks per day.

Researchers note exercise did not moderate death risks among those who drank at harmful levels. That includes more than 30 drinks a week for women and 28 drinks for men.
