Sharing the road with tractors during harvest season

With fall officially here, it’s time for the fall crop harvest season as well, which means more tractors on the roads and a worthwhile safety reminder.
More and more motorists will come into proximity with farm equipment on rural roads increasing opportunities for collisions.
Georgetown Police Captain Ralph Holm tells 47 ABC that people need to realize that it is a necessary thing for these tractors to be on the roadway as farming can benefit everyone.
But he knows how frustrating it can be for drivers that get stuck behind slow moving tractors, but to maintain road safety he says drivers must not get too aggressive.
“The best thing to do in this season as we come into is be prepared to run into a tractor not literally but see tractors out on the road and pick alternate routes if you can and if you do get stuck behind one be patient and understand that’s something that that particular farm has to do and when its safe to do so pull out and get passed them,” explains Capt. Holm.
Extra patience, careful driving habits, and heightened vigilance can keep the roads safety during this harvest season.
