Search for Worc. Co. Superintendent: Louis H. Taylor

The search for superintendent is underway in Worcester County. The board of education has narrowed it down to two finalists.

“I was a principal at Stephen Decatur high school when Stephen Decatur became the first Maryland blue ribbon school in Worcester county. I was fixture there, and I loved it there,” said Louis H. Taylor, one of the two candidates for the next Worcester County Superintendent.

On Monday, Taylor, a Worcester County school alum himself,  recalled his 33 years as an educator at the county. He says one of his proudest moments happened during his 17 years as Stephen Decatur’s principal.

” We raised 500 thousand dollars to build a field house at Stephen Decatur from private funds,” says Taylor.

Taylor is now the Chief Operating Officer for Worcester County Public Schools. He tells 47 ABC if he is chosen to be the next superintendent his top priority will be college and career readiness.

“I want to make sure  that kids are prepared  for the next phase in their life,” says Taylor.

While he admits he doesn’t have a concrete plan just yet,  if he is chosen he will start by looking at all the initiatives the schools are currently working on, and then and prioritize them to ensure success.

“I’m going to have to do a lot of listening  to people, both teachers, students, community, leadership  to see what our priorities are. I think sometimes we get caught up in so much  that’s demand of us and we don’t do anything well. And if it means taking some things off the plate  so that we can excel in these areas. Than that’s what my hope to do is,” says Taylor.

On Tuesday,  47 ABC will meet with the second candidate. Board officials say their goal is to chose the top candidate by October, and they will be expected  to begin by July of next year.
