Remnant of hurricane could impact holiday weekend plans

vacationers hitting coastal towns across delmarva. as 47 a-b-c’s lili zheng reports — those hitting the beach may have to rethink some plans. we’re supposed to go to the water park, the beach… butt sot love it here. i’m excited to be here, i’m just bummed with the weather track 1 tara finklestein are her family — are visiting ocean city from new jersey. but — this labor day may not be a lot of fun in the sun. the expected remnants of a system that on thursday became hurricane hermine — traveling northeast — may mean higher surf and increased rip current activity — according to the ocean city beach patrol. lieutenant ward kovacs tells 47 a-b-c — there will be 45 lifeguard stands on the beach this holiday weekend. that’s compared to about 90 in the middle of the summer. a lot of our staff is going to go away to other states like places in california, hawaii and obviously they can’t come in just for a weekend track 3 according to kovacs — the most important advice for beachgoers — is to know where the nearest lifeguards are. he says the stands will be about 450 yards away from each other. it’s just really important for people to ask the lifeguards what the conditions are and they kind of have to gauge their swimming abilities and their water abilities according to the conditions at the time track 4 so that people can enjoy their holiday weekend — we’re hoping the weather clears up, we’ll go out on our boat track 5 — and still stay safe. lili zheng, 47 a-b-c according to lieutenant kovacs — the crowd in ocean city is not expected to be as big as it was for the fourth of the july holiday. he says — it will likely be similar to memorial day weekend. we also checked in with rehoboth beach patrol… and they tell us there will be between thirty to forty lifeguards on duty this weekend. we’re told that’s not far off from their typical crew — of about fifty. stands will be located about a block apart. they say the most important water safety tip — is to swim near a lifeguard. for the latest weather and news updates — anytime. check out our website 47 abc dot com. none of us are immune to peer pressure —
