Pumpkin patch picking in full swing thanks to good harvest

A big part of fall is pumpkin picking and farmers are getting ready for families, children, and students to come out to their fields to pick their favorites.
According to Connie Oakley of Oakley’s Farm Market, this year they were fortunate to have a good pumpkin harvest. Although it wasn’t a completely smooth harvest, she says a very rainy stretch this spring threatened the harvest which was saved in part by a drier summer.
Oakley says having a good pumpkin harvest is crucial for them in the fall, its how they make their biggest profits in the upcoming months.
And as for picking a good one, Oakley says,” When you pick a good pumpkin you want to look for one that has a nice hard stem. You don’t want it to be soft anywhere, you want your pumpkin to be nice and hard and you just want it to look nice.”
Oakley also says anytime from now through October and the beginning of November are the best times to go pumpkin picking.
