Pittsville Woman arrested after reportedly leading police on a chase in Ocean City

A woman has reportedly been arrested after police say she led an officer on a chase in Ocean City.
According to Ocean City Police, around 1:30 AM Tuesday morning an officer responded to the area of Coastal Highway on 45th street to assist another officer with stopping a fleeing car. The officer reportedly broadcasted on the police radio that he stopped 26-year old Sunny Schrum of Pittsville in a silver pontiac on 33rd street because Schrum reportedly stopped at a crosswalk but not before the painted stop line at the intersection.
Schrum also reportedly beeped her horn repeatedly for three to five seconds as she drove north on Baltimore Avenue from 6th to 33rd street, and police say she was not beeping it for safety or emergency reasons.,
Schrum also reportedly swerved in between lanes on 9th street without obeying lane directions and reportedly continued to honk and hold her horn up to 33rd street and Coastal Highway. Schrum also reportedly drove past a stop sign. When a police officer signaled for Schrum to stop, she reportedly led the officer on a chase until 45th street. Then, when the officer tried to come to her on foot to discuss the previous violations, she reportedly fled in her car.
As police say officers pursued, Schrum reportedly fled up to 90mph during the pursuit toward Route 50. The following violations were reportedly noted during the pursuit which happened in and around other traffic. Schrum also reportedly did not stop for consistent red traffic signals at southbound Philadelphia Avenue and 26th, 23rd, 17th, 12th, 8th and 5th streets.
Along with reportedly speeding, Schrum reportedly drove in a reckless, negligent and aggressive manner to elude police by failing to stop. Schrum also reportedly did not stop until all four of her car’s tires were flattened by police stop sticks. police say, officers were eventually able to stop Schrum on the Route 50 bridge.
Later, Schrum was found by police to be reportedly driving on a revoked license because of a 2015 points system violation. Along with that her license was suspended in March for reportedly failing to pay child support. Furthermore, the officer smelled alcohol on Schrum, and she was given a sobriety test which showed that her blood alcohol level was .15.
Schrum reportedly failed to complete all of the sobriety tests, and said that she had had two alcoholic drinks before driving.
Schrum was reportedly charged with:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Driving under the influence of alcohol per se
- Driving while impaired by alcohol
- Driver use of motor vehicle horn on highway when not reasonably necessary for safety
- Driver failing to make left turn from left lane
- Attempt by driver to elude uniformed police by failing to stop
- Attempt by driver to elude police in official police vehicle by failing to stop
- Person driving motor vehicle on highway or public use property on suspended license and privilege
- Person driving motor vehicle on highway or public use property on revoked license and privilege
- Driver failure to obey designated lane directions
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Driving vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on highway
- Negligent driving
- Reckless driving
- Aggressive driving
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Driver fail to stop at steady circular red signal
- Stopping standing vehicle on crosswalk
- Person driving motor vehicle on highway without tires in safe operating condition as required by administration
Schrum was also reportedly given several fines and citations.
