One arrested in connection to June apartment fire

Deputy State Fire Marshals say they have made an arrest in connection with an apartment fire that happened on June 2.

According to the report, the investigation found out that Jamie N. Joynes, 31, was responsible for setting a fire at 304 E. Elizabeth Street in Delmar.

Officials say an arrest warrant was obtained charging Joynes with the following:

  • 1st degree arson
  • 2nd degree arson
  • Malicious burning 1st degree
  • Malicious destruction of property
  • Two counts of reckless endangerment

The one alarm fire was reported at 7:45AM on June 2, and 30 firefighters responded from Delmar, Hebron and Salisbury Station #2. The fire was able to be controlled in about 20 minutes, and was listed to have caused about $60,000 in total damages.

Deputy State Fire Marshals say they served the arrest warrant,and took Joynes into custody at a home in Frederica Delaware with the help of the Delaware State Police.

Joynes was seen by a Delaware Justice of the Peace where she waived and consented to extradition, was taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center, and is being held on $75,000 bond.

If convicted of all charges, officials say Joynes faces 68 years incarceration and / or $97,500 dollars in fines.
