On The Job: Dazzle

“today were at dazzle where were going to be custom wrapping gifts and even making our own gift baskets to give your present a little something extra – i’m super excited so lets go.” track 1 whether your looking for a wedding gift – a holiday ornament – or a piece of jewelry – dazzle has it all. owner joyce landsman says she started this store two years ago — with the purpose of giving great service. but with that service she also offers something else – complimentary gift wrapping. and today – she’s hired me to work alongside her store associate bonnie kamm. “so what are we going to be doing today – were going to show you how to take an ordinary gift and turn it into an extraordinary presentation.” “people come here to buy the gifts because of the gift wrapping – right – it’s become really famous as to what we do.” “and you will be an expert by the time you leave – ok expert michelle – we will dazzle you- ok i like that.” track 1 the gift wrapping station is located in the back of the store – and is filled with ribbons – wrapping paper – and lots and lots of glitter. our first job — wrapping a basket of mugs for a customer. 05:55:28″you start first of all with a basket and you have to asses what you’re going to put in it – as to what you’re – to make sure its not too small or too big – right and you want it to have levels you just don’t want it to sit there – so that’s why we stuff the bottom first with tissue.”05:55:43 track 2 next you add what joyce calls fluff. “we start with a little layer and then we’ll position what’s going in here – ok.” track 3 as soon as your objects are placed in the basket how you want them – you add more fluff around it to make it look extra pretty. “let me put some behind there – very good see – alright i’m learning.” “so step one is done we’ve stuffed the basket – we’ve laid out all of our materials and now we’ve got to wrap it.” track 4 as far as how much paper you use – bonnie says you just eyeball it. next you can pick your strings to tie the present together. “this is not easy – it gets easier when you do it – the more you do it – yes – ok.” track 5 once you have your string on there – you can add your finishing touch – the glittery ribbon! “i feel like i’m covered in glitter though – yes – well that is what happens.” track 6 finally our first basket was done! next we had to make a fruit basket – and joyce says it was all me this time! after picking my basket and adding my items – i added some fluff. but sometimes you over-do the fluff. “oh down goes the pear – you’ll get it back in there – you know what might work – up-sidown pear.” track 7 next step – picking the wrapping paper. “i think i’m eye-boiling – the glitters gone to my head.” track 8 well i was eye-balling some wrapping paper. joyce says when you’re wrapping – a good trick is to fold the sides in first so you don’t tape it too much. final step – tying your basket up with glittery ribbon and bows – and it’s complete! “my first basket all by myself – well – yes – basically by myself right? yes.” track 9 next – joyce and bonnie had me wrap a gift that one of their customers had just purchased in the store! a dog leash holder. first step – picking out a paper box and filling it with tissue paper. then you have to wrap the wrapping paper tightly around the box. “this is not supposed to be this easy – this is never this easy when i do it – well now you know how and it will be easy.” track 10 and finally my favorite part – the sparkle. “we could do – yeah – that – ok or the sparkle – or the sparkle what do you like? lets do sparkle overload.” track 11 last step – you curl your string – and it’s ready! “so now you get to go give it to our customer – oh my gosh i’m so excited.” “this is your gift – oh my godness – this is your beautiful gift – oh i love it – you love it – goodness gracious oh i t looks great – dazzle – we dazzled it for you – that is so cool thank you.” “she likes it – she likes it ok i’m happy.” “after everything how did i do today – you were terrific – really – absolutely fantastic such a quick learner you did a beautiful job you have a great eye for color and you absolutely knew how to do it- thank you.” “i’m completely covered in glitter like completely covered in glitter but it was so worth it because i really had so much fun.” “would you to help gift wrap – in a heart beat – really ok – absolutely – ok well ill be back – alright well you’re wonderful – thank you.” track 12 michelle mackonochie 47 abc. michelle says she feels pretty good about wrapping presents! she’s ready for the holidays. next week on the job – michelle heads back to laytons chance for a second time to help with grape harvesting – so be sure to tune in for that. coming up we’ll have a final look at your
