OC beach ball water tower almost finished

In downtown Ocean City, the highly anticipated beach ball water tower got a final coat of paint this past weekend.
This landmark has been under construction since June of 2015, and will replace two aging water towers. City officials say it is expected to enhance fire flow, improve water quality, and reduce maintenance costs.
The beach ball water tower, which is scheduled to be finished in November, will hold one million gallons of water, which will allow the town to remove existing towers on Worcester Street and 15th Street.
The new water tower is on 1st Street, and city officials report that the project cost about $4.9 million dollars, which was funded by general obligation bonds.
The removal of the aging water towers is supposed to:
- Improve the water distribution
- Will allow for future expansion of the Ocean City Fire Department Headquarters
- Allow for about 30 additional parking spaces on Worcester Street
With the paint job complete, Ocean City’s public works department reports it will continue to work with Chicago Bridge and Iron subcontractors to finish site work, including fencing, landscaping and the eventual in-service placement of the take once sterilization is complete.
Ocean City officials say they are optimistic that the water tower will not only improve the water distribution but will also add a fun and memorable charm to Ocean City’s downtown horizon.
