MuMo aims to steer kids down the right path

on us at any age. the key — is how we deal with it — and for teenagers in somerset county — there’s now a new arrow in their quiver of coping devices. it’s an app — 47 abc’s julian sadur has details. track the app is called mumo and it stands for mess up – miss out — because as jalissa worthy with the somerset county health department says if teens engage in things like sex — drugs – and alcohol they could miss out on life opportunities like graduation – college – or just even the opportunity to to be alive and hang out with friends. worthy hopes the app will serve as a resource for parents trying to talk to their teens- and for the teens themselves. maybe they’re feeling particular pressure in a certain area maybe to smoke or maybe to drink, they’re able to pull that app up, look see what services are offered in the county, who they can talk to if they need help if they want to reach out to someone of if something they just want to investigate more on their own track the app has twelve different sections – and includes quizzes on topics like s-t-d knowledge and categories like “who can i trust” — which directs teens to people they can speak with. dalton adams – an eleventh grader at crisfield high school says the app is smart way to get people involved because of how many people use their phones. it’s got a lot of good tools on there that could help them in their life and anyone that’s feeling kind of lost or alone, it’s a good thing for them track adams was part of a student group called sadd – an acronym for students against destructive decisions. the group aims to do a lot of what the mumo does — in steering teens down what they consider the right path. sadd helped advertise for the event with a sidewalk chalk campaign. the group’s advisor – and school nurse lynne brumley is all for the app as well. she says as a nurse students come to her with a variety of questions – and when she doesn’t know the answer – that’s where mumo will come in handy. 121702 the app is going to help all of us fill in the gaps 121705 track julian sadur – 47 abc mumo is also on instagram – and you can post pictures of you using the app using the hashtag mumo. the somerset county health department will also be at the washington high school tailgate for the football game tomorrow night promoting the app. the new patricia guerrieri academic commons —
