Mitchell announces plans to resign

Salisbury city council chairwoman Laura Mitchell has announced has to resign, according to city officials.

City mayor Jake Day tells 47ABC the announcement was made Monday night at the council meeting.

According to Mayor Day, Mitchell will officially end her tenure at the end of September.

47 ABC reached out to Mitchell in an effort to find out why she is resigning. We have not received any word as of 10 p.m. Monday.

Mitchell represents District 5 in Salisbury. She is currently the vice president of the council.
