Message from Wicomico Co. exec. Bob Culver

The release from Wicomico County executive Bob Culver regarding road safety is as follows:
“Wicomico County residents are encouraged to use caution and avoid driving through water running across roadways. In many cases, water flowing over roads actually causes sections of the road to erode and that damage isn’t visible to the driver. Drivers can also flood out their engines, cause brake failure and hydroplaning.
“We’ve had reports of widespread flooding and stranded vehicles. Flooding is still a major concern in many areas. The next high tide is around 4 PM. If you see standing water, please do not drive through it.
“All available County road crews have been out responding to calls and fixing roads as they go. If anyone knows of a road that has water flowing over it, please call the County Roads Department at 410-548-4872.
“Over the past 24 hours the County has opened all the gates at County-owned dams. Coulbourn Mill and Morris Mill dams are being closely monitored because of their proximity to residential concentrations.
“I just want all County residents to be safe and to be cautious. We’ve just experienced a major storm and threats to safety still continue.”
