Local Leaders attend Dover city council meeting to voice concern for homeless population

Dover residents addressed city council tonight on the growing homeless issue in Dover. According to the Governor’s office, every year, on average, about 8,000 people in Delaware experience homelessness at least onceDover alone has five homeless shelters but still over 100 known homeless people in the community.

Aaron Appling is a Pastor for Victory church and he says Monday’s meeting is a cry for help. This church has been at this for seven months trying to get decision makers to make a difference while spreading awareness about the problem that they feel they’ve come up with a solution to; Tiny Homes.

These are 10X20 homes, each built with a full bathroom, kitchen, and pull out bed.   These spaces are designed to house one person. Each house would cost about 10,000 to build  but nothing is expected to happen without the city’s approval. Which is what they ask for every month at these city council meetings. Still, no approval but Pastor Appling says they will be at every city council meeting until something is done about the homeless population.
