Local Community Helps Aspiring Musician

About a month ago Troy Grove knew something was wrong.
“I actually woke up one morning I think it was August ninth and I had double vision and no sense of balance,” says Grove.
His sister Tiffany didn’t know what was going on but she knew it was serious. So their mom rushed home from work, took one look at Troy and headed straight to the ER. That’s when doctors confirmed Troy had suffered a stroke at 20-years-old.
Troy explains, “When something like this happens, when you have a stroke at the age of twenty and it just blindsides you and you just, you lay there and feel kind of helpless.”
Now less than month later, Troy is making a steady recovery. But, doctors told him he wouldn’t be allowed to work for up to six weeks, putting a hold on his dream. Troy was planning on moving to Nashville in October to pursue his music career. He already plays regular gigs locally, including at Brew River.
But between his medical bills and expenses it seemed Music City would have to wait. Brew River manager Beverly Rincon says it was never in question that the restaurant would help out.
She says, “When we found out that he was going to be out of work for a little bit we wanted to do anything we could to help him out. He’s one of our family.”
So Brew River decided to donate ten percent of their dock bar sales from four to eight Monday evening. The goal was to help Troy with medical expenses and to keep his music career going.
“It’s crazy, its awesome I actually didn’t realize the support that I had until a couple weeks ago when everybody started to showing up in the hospital room and they start coming out here, its amazing that’s for sure,” exclaims Troy.
Troy’s family and friends were just as grateful.
Troys sister Tiffany Grove told 47ABC, “I really want him to pursue his dream and not let anything hold him back and for this to hold him back. You know it hurt our family a little bit but I’m really glad everyone is supporting us.”
Dylan Bryan, Troy’s band mate also chimed in, “I’m just excited to see where he goes in the next couple years. I believe in him one hundred percent and so does everyone here obviously so its really cool.
Troy tells 47 ABC that this experience has taught him to cherish every moment with everyone because you don’t know when your last day will be.
