IRSD employee arrested on sexual abuse charges

On Tuesday, the Georgetown Police say they arrested a woman in regards to sexual abuse of a child.

Georgetown Police say that through investigation, they were able to discover that Nicole Degirolano, 23, of Millsboro, an employee of the Indian River School District, engaged in sexual acts with a 17-year-old male student who was enrolled at her assigned school.

According to the report, while having sexual relations with the victim, Degirolano was employed by the Indian River School District serving in the position of paraprofessional.

Degirolano was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $80,000 secured bond, after being charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, authority, or supervision.

47ABC got a statement from the Indian River School District concerning the matter. The statement is as follows: “Nicole DeGirolano has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.”
