Governor Markell announces progress in supporting young people with disabilities in getting employment

Delaware Governor Jack Markell has announced significant progress in supporting young people with disabilities in getting a fair shot in competitive employment fields.
The Pathways to Employment Initiative now has a case manager to solely focus on them.
These case managers help them come up with employment goals. They define what their strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences are. From there, they complete an employment plan.
Working since 2005, Pathways to Employment is a mechanism and funding source to allow those with disabilities to look for work as soon as possible.
Those eligible are ages between 14 and 25 and qualifiying for a disability varies from being visually, physically, or developmentally disabled.
They have set goals for them to find work and how to manage their first paycheck.
With Pathways, they were able to see about 40 percent employment rate just in the past year.
