Governor Markell announces progress in supporting young peop

young people with disabilities in getting a fair shot in competitive employment fields. the pathways to employment initiative now has a case manager to solely focus on them. working since 2005, pathways for employment is a mechanism and funding source to allow those with disabilities to look for work as soon as possible. those eligible are ages between fourteen and 25 –and qualifiying for a disability varies from being visually, physically, or developmentally disabled. they have set goals for them to find work and how to manage their first paycheck. a representative from the program tells us more about the case manager’s duties. they help them come up with employment goals. they define what are their strengths, needs, abilities and preferences. and from there, they complete an employment plan. with pathways, they were able to see about 40 percent employment rate just in the past year. coming up after the break
