G.W. Carver Academy receives $500 grant to support youth literacy

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded G.W. Carver Academy in Frankford a $500 grant to support youth literacy.
This local grant is part of a $4.5 million in youth literacy grants awarded to 1,000 organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General serves.
This grant will go towards a school project, which includes a collaborative effort from the the teachers to the students to create a school-wide newspaper.
The GWC School Counselor, Whitney Price, submitted their application in hopes to receive this grant and she said any dollar would have been helpful.
Price says these students are going to own this project and that they are going to read, research, collaborate, design and create the school-wide newspaper as apart of the positive behavior support initiative.
This initiative is a research-based approach to support certain types of behaviors. Price states they are excited to see the students embrace this new project and they are extremely thankful for this grant.
