Creepy clown phenomenon hits Salisbury

Across the nation, it’s being called the creepy clown phenomenon. People wearing the costumes, masks, and wigs, prowling neighborhoods scaring anyone in their paths and now it’s made it’s way to Delmarva.

Over the past several weeks, there have been social media posts documenting alleged sightings and now a case has popped up in Salisbury. According to Salisbury residents at  Pemberton Manor Apartments on Fairground drive, clowns have been coming onto the property harassing people for the past two days.

“It was me and my friends out here and they just started chasing us; for no reason. I think there were about six of them but luckily we got away,” said Bisheri Jacobs, a resident of Pemberton Manor.

Jacobs says the clowns came from Pemberton Elementary school located alongside the apartment building.  We stood outside talking to Jacobs and his friends for about five minutes before managers and security of Pemberton Apartments approached us, asking us to leave the property. Salisbury Police are taking these reports very seriously.

“We’ve been continuing our extra patrol in the area to one: identify these clowns and try to eliminate this behavior from going any further,” said Captain Kaiser of Salisbury police department. “We are a little concerned as a community in this point in time that this could kind of get out of control a little bit.”

Kaiser goes on to say that Fairground drive is the only report they’ve received on these clown sightings and while dressing like a clown isn’t necessarily illegal, hiding in bushes or wooded areas with the intent of scaring citizens is a dangerous situation that can lead to unintended consequences. Parents of children at Pemberton Manor say they hope this is just a silly prank that stops today.
