Ahead of GOP Primaries: Lacey Lafferty

Lacey Lafferty admits she’s never held an elected office position, but she’s not a complete newcomer in Delaware politics either.

In a one-on-one interview with 47ABC, Lafferty says she knows what Delawareans need because she is one.

A fifth generation born and raised in Lewes, the mother of one and 1979 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School is running for governor of Delaware.

“I’ve been out here in the trenches working like everyone else out here in our communities, life-long. I mean, I started as an early entrepreneur…20 years old, building an agriculture business building grain commodities as well as a poultry company,” Lafferty explains.

The former Democratic Committee woman for the 40th District also served 13 years with the Delaware State Police. It’s skills like problem-solving and negotiations, the now republican candidate says will take Delaware out of what she calls a state of “demise”.

Among the biggest problem: a lack job of opportunities. She says this, coupled with what she describes as a spending problem is pushing the first state down a slippery slope.

“Each agency’s budget is always over-inflated by five percent. We can reduce that. When we sit here and pull everything in together, we can reduce the spending,” she says.

When asked, she says it’s too soon to tell exactly how much.

Similar to her opponent Senator Colin Bonini, Lafferty tells 47ABC she supports a reduction in taxes and regulation.

Where the candidates differ, according to her, is her life-long experience in Delaware as a public servant.

“I mean, who do you call when you have a problem? You call 911 and they send a police officer out there to solve your problem and you’re expecting the police officer to solve it very quickly, do you not? So that’s where I have that expertise to problem solve very quickly and get the job done,” Lafferty explains.

Lafferty will face Senator Bonini as her opponent in next week’s primaries. Voters head to the polls on Tuesday.
