Wicomico and Somerset cooling centers open again for weekend

Cooling centers will apparently be open this weekend to help county residents stay cool. 

With expected temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s and heat index forecasted to be near 110 degrees, the following sites will be open on the day indicated:

  • Princess Anne Library- 11767 Beechwood St., Princess Anne
    • Saturday 10 AM- 5 PM

  • Crisfield Library- 100 Collins St., Crisfield
    • Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM

  • Woodrow Wilson Community Center- 119 S 7th St, Crisfield
    • Sunday 9 AM – 5 PM
    • 410-968-2668
  • UMES Student Services Center- 30665 College Backbone Road, Princess Anne
    • Sunday 12 PM – 6 PM
    • 410-651-6590

Residents should take their own food, beverages, and medications to the cooling centers, and pets are not allowed.  

The Somerset County Emergency Management and the Somerset County Health Department continue to urge area residents to take the heat seriously and to take appropriate steps to stay safe. 

Officials ask you to remember to drink more fluids, but avoid alcohol and high sugar drinks. Also, when going out, never leave any persons, especially infants or young children, or animals in a closed, parked vehicle for even a few minutes.

Also, in Salisbury, a cooling center will be opened at the Wicomico County Civic Center on Saturday and Sunday, Aug 13th and 14th from 11 AM- 7PM.

The Wicomico County Civic Center , Flanders Room, is located at 500 Glen Avenue Salisbury, MD 21804. No pets are permitted. Residents will need to bring their own food, beverages and medications. Anyone needing transportation to the Civic Center should call Shore Transit at 443-260-2300 and select “dispatch” option.

MAC Inc., Senior Center will not be open. Residents are also encouraged to go to any other public cooling spaces such as the Salisbury Mall or Wicomico County Library.
