Vehicle rolls on top of Salisbury man, officials declare him dead

Worcester County 911 says they got a call, on Sunday, about a car crash in Whaleyville.

Around 9:30 AM, on Blueberry Road, officials apparently got a call about a vehicle on its side in an irrigation ditch.

According to the report, Showell Fire & EMS, along with deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, responded and found a 1995 Chevrolet van with the driver trapped under the vehicle.

Officials determined that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Todd Mariner, 49, of Salisbury, to be deceased. The initial investigation apparently revealed that the vehicle left the roadway and stopped along the edge of an irrigation ditch.

As Mariner tried to exit the vehicle, the shift of weight causde the car to roll on top of him. Officials say that alcohol was believed to have played a factor in the crash.
