UPDATED: Man and son get caught in surf at Assateague Bay

47ABC has received information about a man and his son who were apparently taken to the hospital after swimming at Assateague Island.
Liz Davis, Chief of Interpretation and Education at the Assateague Island National Seashore, told 47ABC that the man, 45, and his son,16, were reportedly out swimming when they got caught in a strong surf and taken under the water.
The son reportedly made it back and was found outside a sandbar, but the father was found in the ocean, unconscious, and was driven to the hospital by ambulance. Currently both the father and son are in the hospital.
Officials at Assateague Island have reported that the father has been pronounced dead at the hospital and they also confirmed that the son did survive.
