UPDATE: Officials announce opening of Salisbury ACME store

A new ACME store will open in Salisbury on September 9, officials have announced.

Danielle D’Elia, a spokesperson for ACME, says the store will “close for a short time” as officials rebrand the Salisbury Boulevard location to ACME. It is currently a Giant food store.

According to D’Elia, the store will only close for a few days; however, it is not clear exactly which dates.

In July, Giant’s parent company Ahold USA confirmed the company and Albertsons, which owns ACME, reached an agreement to divest a total of 86 stores as a part of a planned merger between Ahold and the Delhaize Group.

“It’s an opportunity to deliver even more for our customers, our associates and our local communities,” Chris Brand, spokesperson for Ahold USA, told 47ABC in July.

In terms of the current employees at the Giant store, Ahold says they do not anticipate any layoffs.
