UPDATE: Male body washes ashore 127th St., police investigating

Police are investigating after a body reportedly washed shore Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the unidentified male body was reportedly spotted by a beachgoer on 127th Street around 4:22 p.m. Initially, it was unclear the object was.

Lindsay Richard, public information officer for the Ocean City Police Department, tells 47ABC a lifeguard was alerted which is when the body was pulled out of the water.

Richard says there have been no recent reports of missing persons.

“Bodies don’t typically wash up to shore,” she says. “We’ve not had some idea of who they might be. We don’t have any reported drownings recently. We don’t have any reported missing person in our area, so this is very unusual to have someone wash up.”

The body was removed from the beach around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

It is unclear how long the body may have been in the water. We’re told it will head to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ocean City Police Department at 410-723-6610.
