UPDATE: Board of Ed. revamps proposal for new Showell Elem.

The Worcester County Board of Education is taking a second crack at getting approval for a new Showell Elementary School.

At its most recent meeting the Board gave the green light on a new conceptual plan, education specifications and construction cost estimates.

Last fall county commissioners shot down the school board’s initial proposal because of financial concerns, commissioners saying the most they could afford was $37.2 million for construction.

The new conceptual plan fits the budget restriction with construction costs estimated near $36 million.

“What it will allow us to do is to move our students out of the modulars  that they are presently in, our second grade is in modulars and we’ll move our fourth grade back into the school, so it will become our largest elementary school,” Dr. Wilson said.

The board is set to present plans to the county commissioners in September.

If everything goes as planned construction would begin on the school site in 2019.
