SU students seek to build community relationships

Salisbury University students are now working to improve and build relationships, not just with their fellow students but with the community around campus, as well.
47 ABC spoke to the groups’ organizer, Dan Foust, to get more information on the campaign.

“These students are reaching out to their neighbors to introduce themselves and personalize their relationships with them,” said Foust. “When they show up they have a door hanger in hand – depending on if their talking to a student or a surrounding resident, there are tips on either side  to help strengthen the relationship between the student and our community.”

We also had a chance to meet up with some SU students to see how they felt about their fellow peers teaming up with the community.

“I mean I think it’s a great idea, definitely. its always good if you’re a school – you want to build a good relationship with the community”

“I mean honestly I haven’t noticed that many crimes go on in Salisbury. I’ve always felt kind of safe but the fact that people are joined together makes the community feel even closer and it makes it feel like a safe community.”

“I think it’s a good idea because it’s a really different area when we’re not here so want to try to bring them together here with them.”

Foust tells us the group started 5 years ago with just seven members sand now those members are at 150. He believes the power is in numbers and expects a great upcoming school year for his students.
