Sharptown Carnival Watermelon Eating Contest

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Sharptown Firemen’s Carnival in Sharptown and plenty of people out were out and about on Friday evening enjoying all it has to offer! Lines were out the door for all of the carnivals delicacies such as their famous fried oyster sandwich and the soft shell crab sandwich.

There were also various rides to enjoy, but one of the big events? The watermelon eating contest! 47 ABC’s Michelle Mackonochie emceed the event and caught up with the Mardela watermelon queen Amy Wigglesworth.

Wigglesworth tells 47 ABC, “It is so exciting this is actually my first time here at the Sharptown firemans carnival so it’s really cool to see all of the kids come out and support watermelon and eat watermelon and just have so much fun.”

There were 3 contest winners of the watermelon eating contest, all of which received free McDonald’s breakfast for a year!
