Joseph Owen Ellis, 26, of Salisbury

On Thursday, a deputy apparently arrested a Salisbury man in connection with an assault.

Around 1:45 PM, Joseph Ellis, 26, was arrested after he was apparently engaged in a physical altercation with his girlfriend.

According to the report, Ellis kicked his girlfriend in the ribs and grabbed her around her throat. Officials say that during the investigation the deputy observed signs of injury that matched what the victim said happened.

Upon arrest Ellis apparently was taken to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner.

Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner reportedly detained Ellis in the Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 bond.
