PRMC gearing up for technology overhaul

Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is gearing up to unveil a new information technology system that is over a year in the making. The new technology will be replacing a system that is 20 years old, and will reportedly put PRMC in the same league as other top hospitals in the area.

PRMC will be working on a “one patient, one record” mantra with the system, which allows patients to have their information pulled up so long as it’s been entered in one time, at any other participating hospital or primary care physician.

PRMC Chief Information Officer Ray Adkins says there will be a period before the employees are completely comfortable with the new system, but have put together a team to minimize the negative effect on patients. “We have hired additional staff to support  the implementation within our project team is about 120 individuals that this is pretty much what they are doing on a day to day basis in support of the project” Adkins tells 47ABC.

The system is set to go live on November 1st, and after the first few months of stabilization, PRMC officials hope that the system can be optimized with new additions like a free app that patients can schedule appointments and consult with healthcare professionals on.
