Police respond to and resolve barricade incident in Ocean Pines

Ocean Pines Police say they responded to a barricade incident on Sunday.
Officials reportedly got information that a 21-year-old Ocean Pines resident was making threats against himself, and anyone coming in contact with him, at his home on Point Lookout Road.
According to the report, police got information that the suspect had weapons at his home, and had previous mental health issues. Ocean Pines Police say they cordoned off the area, and asked for assistance from the Ocean City Police Quick Response Team, or SWAT, and their Hostage Negotiation Unit.
Units reportedly responded to the area of Point Lookout and began negotiating with the suspect. After a period of negotiation, officials say the suspect agreed to give himself safely up to police tactical members, and no injuries were reported.
According to the report the entire incident lasted for 6 hours, and officials would like to note that Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department and the Ocean City Fire Department also helped resolve the incident.
Officials say the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for psychiatric evaluation. Also, weapons reportedly were located inside the residence.
Chief David Massey of the Ocean Pines Police Department stated, “In today’s troubled times, police are often called to assist in volatile incidents that could be life threatening. The cooperation among all police and fire units on the scene of this mental health incident ensured that everyone went home safely.”
