PA man arrested in connection with armed robberies

Marvin Banks, 24, of Upland, PA

Following a joint investigation by the Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police, Upland Borough, PA Police Department, and the Brookhaven, PA Police Department, a man has reportedly been arrested and charged following a series of armed robberies which have been occurring since late last month.

On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals Service says they arrested Marvin Banks, 24, of Upland, PA, without incident in Upland.

According to the report, through multiple interviews and the collection of physical evidence, Banks has been identified as the suspect who had committed four armed robberies and a carjacking, investigated by the New Castle County Police Department in Delaware, as well as two additional armed robberies in Pennsylvania.

Officials say a subsequent search of Banks’ residence revealed evidence linking him to the crimes, and he was also found to be wanted in Delaware for violating the conditions of his sex offender status.

Banks was apparently arraigned and is currently incarcerated in Pennsylvania.

Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives have reportedly gotten warrants charging Banks with six counts of robbery first degree, 11 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, 6 counts of aggravated menacing, 2 counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, 2 counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and 2 counts of kidnapping second degree.

Officials say Banks will be formally arrested upon his extradition to Delaware on a later date.

According to the report, Banks is suspected of committing the armed robberies of the following businesses:

  • Dunkin Donuts, 701 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, June 25
  • Walgreens, 1508 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, July 3
  • Walgreens, 802 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, July 30
  • Wawa, 301 Ridge Road, Claymont

In each of the incidents, Banks apparently would enter the targeted business, display a handgun, and demand money from the victim employees. After receiving the money, Banks would apparently run in an unknown direction, and there were no injuries reported in any of the incidents.

Please contact the New Castle County Police Department, the Upland Borough Police Department, and the Brookhaven Police Department for further information in reference to incidents investigated by those agencies.
